Custom Hook-and-Loop Patches

A hook-and-loop patch is made for identifiers that change. The patch carries the hook side on its back, and it grips a loop field that is already on your gear or garment. That is why unit insignia, rank, blood type strips and morale patches all end up on this backing: the wearer swaps them in seconds without touching a needle. Many buyers search for Velcro patches, which is a brand name for this fastening rather than the fastening itself.

The part people miss is that this is a two-sided system. A hook-backed patch does nothing on a garment with no loop field. Most plate carriers, chest rigs and duty shirts already have loop panels, and the dimensions of that panel are what set the finished size of your patch rather than a number you picked. Measure the field and send that measurement. If your garment has no loop panel, we can supply the mating loop side, so say that when you order rather than assuming it is included.

The tradeoff is that removable means removable. A hook-and-loop patch can be knocked off, and the hook face collects lint and thread over time, which slowly weakens the grip. That is the right compromise when the patch has to change and the wrong one for club colors or a permanent uniform badge. Send the artwork, the loop field measurement and the garment, and the proof will show the patch, the hook coverage and the finished size.
