A uniform patch program is different from a one-off order in one important way: you will buy it again. New staff, replaced garments, a second site, a name that changes. That means the decisions worth getting right are the ones that make the second order match the first, which is a different set of decisions from the ones that make a single patch look good.
Most programs are a set rather than a single badge. A company badge, name strips, role or qualification tags, sometimes site or seasonal pieces. They sit on the same garment and they have to agree with each other in color, letter height and border finish. Planning the whole set in one order is how that is guaranteed. An exact repeat run afterward is 10% off, and exact means the art, size, color, material and construction are unchanged.
Care is the other thing worth being straight about. Uniform garments get washed on a schedule, and a patch that survives a domestic wash may behave differently in a commercial process. We choose the construction and the attachment against how your garments are actually laundered, and we tell you what we expect. What we will not do is publish a blanket laundry claim, because the process, the chemicals and the garment all change the answer.

The logo piece everything else is matched to, usually on a chest placement. It is the one part of the set that never changes, which makes it the natural candidate for a fixed attachment even where the name pieces are removable. Get the color reference right here, because every later reorder and every added piece is matched to this badge rather than to the original artwork file.

Name Patches for Staff Name Strips
The piece that changes most often, which is why so many programs keep it removable while fixing the badge. We set one letter height across the set from the longest name so the strips match each other, and a different name on each costs no more than the same name repeated. Send the roster with the spellings confirmed and tell us how often it turns over.

Small pieces identifying a role, a certification or a level, added and changed as staff progress. Consistency across time matters more than anything else here, since a tag made this year sits next to one made two years ago. Send the full list of tags you expect to need at the start even if you order them in stages.

Pieces that identify a location, a season or a temporary program, often ordered in smaller quantities and often needed quickly. There is no minimum, so a run of fifteen for one site is a real order. Where they have to sit alongside the permanent badge, tell us, and we will size and color them against it rather than as a standalone piece.

The usual chest badge
Three and a half inches is a common width for a chest badge and a sensible starting point. The number that matters is the space available on the actual garment your staff wear, measured with pockets, plackets and seams taken into account. A polo, a work shirt and a soft shell all give you different room, and programs that use more than one garment often need more than one size.
Name strips and tags are sized against the badge rather than independently, so set the badge first. Then check the smallest type in the badge at that width, since a company name with a tagline under it is where most staff badges run out of room. If it does not hold, dropping the tagline is usually better than shrinking everything.
For a durable badge with thread texture on workwear, choose custom embroidered patches. When a company name or a long role title has to stay readable, choose woven patches for fine detail. When the logo carries gradients or a high color count, choose printed patches.

A uniform program is judged on the reorder, not on the first delivery. These three are what make a batch bought next year look like it came from the same order as the one bought this year.
The badge sets the references
Color reference, letter height and border finish are fixed by the company badge and applied to everything else. We hold those references, so a name strip ordered next year is matched to the badge rather than approximated from a photograph.
Exact means exact
A repeat run is 10% off when the art, size, color, material and construction are all unchanged. Change any of those and it is a new piece rather than a reorder, which is worth knowing before you tweak something small.

How It Compares
vs. Woven instead of embroidered
Embroidery is durable and gives thread texture, which suits workwear and heavier garments. Woven sits flatter and thinner, which suits shirts and polos where a thick badge feels heavy, and it holds smaller type, which matters when a company name carries a tagline. The garment and the smallest element decide it between them.

vs. Fixed or removable
The company badge never changes, so fixing it is usually right. Name strips change constantly, so making them removable saves replacing a garment every time someone leaves. Removable pieces need a compatible loop field on the garment, which is a one-time modification. Plenty of programs run both on the same shirt for exactly this reason.
