A PVC patch is molded, not stitched. Your artwork becomes a mold, and flexible PVC is formed in it, which is why these patches can take a die-cut silhouette with no border at all and why they feel soft and slightly rubbery in the hand. Many buyers search for rubber patches and land here, and that is the right page. The material is PVC rather than natural rubber, and the two are not interchangeable.
Molding changes what the design can hold. Detail is limited by what the mold can form and release rather than by what a needle can sew, so line work down to about 0.6 mm and text around 2.5 mm are workable where the artwork is drawn for it. A 2D patch is built in flat stepped layers from a minimum thickness of about 2 mm. A 3D patch is sculpted with rounded contours from about 3 mm. Up to 12 colors are available, and every color boundary is a physical edge in the mold rather than a printed line.
Because the surface has no thread and no woven base, a PVC patch does not soak up water the way twill does, which is why gear buyers reach for it. That is a property of the material, not a guarantee about your specific design in your specific conditions, so tell us where the patch will live and we will say what it will and will not do. vs. Embroidered patches
Embroidery gives you thread texture, a fabric surface and a traditional look that sits naturally on a garment. PVC gives you a molded shape, a smooth surface and a flexible feel that does not absorb water. Embroidery is usually the better answer on uniform garments and jackets. PVC is usually the better answer on carriers, packs, technical shells and anything that lives outdoors.

vs. Woven patches
Woven is the flattest and finest thread construction we make, and it holds smaller lettering than molding does. PVC holds a shape woven cannot, and it survives conditions that would fray a thread edge. If your design is dense with small type on a garment, woven wins. If the design is a bold mark that has to be a specific silhouette on gear, PVC wins.

vs. Silicone patches
These are two different molded materials and they are not interchangeable. Silicone is softer, thinner and stretchier, which is why it suits performance and stretch fabrics where a stiffer badge would fight the garment. PVC holds deeper relief and a firmer edge, which is what gives a morale patch its definition. Both are molded, so both are limited by what the mold can form.
