A woven patch is made on a loom rather than stitched onto a backing. The threads are much finer than embroidery thread and they run flat, which is why this is the construction to choose when the design has small lettering, thin rules or a lot of elements packed into a few inches. There is no minimum order, so a single sample and a run for a whole department are both normal here.
Fineness is the whole point and it is also the tradeoff. Because the threads are thin and flat, a woven patch can hold text down to around 2 mm where the letterform allows it, and it carries up to 12 colors. What it does not give you is the raised texture of embroidery. Run a finger across a woven patch and it feels smooth. If part of the appeal of a patch is that you can see the stitching, this is the wrong construction and we will say so.
Send the artwork at the size you actually want the patch made, because that is the measurement every detail decision depends on. A logo that reads perfectly at four inches can lose its smallest line at two. We come back with a digital proof showing the finished size, the colors, the border and the backing, and we flag any element that is at risk before you approve it rather than after the run.

How It Compares
vs. Embroidered patches
The same raw idea, thread, taken to two different places. Embroidery uses thicker thread stitched onto twill, which gives texture, slight relief and the look most people associate with a patch. Woven uses much finer thread on a loom, which gives a flat, thin surface and a great deal more room for small detail. The smallest element in your artwork usually settles the argument before anyone gets to preference.
Woven when the design depends on small type. Embroidery when texture is part of the point.
vs. Woven labels
Same weaving, different job. A woven patch is an external emblem applied to the outside of a garment and finished with a border and a backing. A woven label is made to be sewn into a seam or a neckline, which means it is planned with fold and seam allowance and it is judged on how it sits inside the garment rather than on it. Ordering one when you need the other is a common and expensive mistake.

vs. Printed patches
Woven builds color from threads, so every color is a discrete choice and the count is capped. Printing lays ink into fabric by dye sublimation, so photographs, gradients and shading are all available and the color count stops being a constraint. What printing gives up is the woven surface: no thread texture, and a different feel in the hand. Artwork with a gradient in it is not a woven job.
