Most unit orders are a set, and the most common shape is a design made in more than one version: full color for one context, subdued for another. That is not a rule, and if one version covers your requirement, one version is a complete order. Where two are needed, they come from the same artwork rather than being recolored separately, because a subdued palette loses contrast and the adjustment has to be made deliberately.
What governs the work is the document you send us. Approved drawings, a written specification, a photograph of the current arrangement: we build to that, because criteria vary between units, uniforms and roles and we will not substitute a general rule for your actual requirement. Authorization stays with you. We do not obtain approval, verify eligibility, or claim any form of official compliance or certification on anyone else's behalf. Embroidered Patches for Unit Insignia
The unit patch itself, and the piece everything else is matched to. Its smallest element decides the construction: bold heraldic shapes suit embroidery, while fine lines and small lettering may need a woven build to survive at shoulder size. Where both a full-color and a subdued version are needed, they are planned from one piece of artwork and proofed side by side, with the subdued palette adjusted rather than simply desaturated so neighboring colors still separate. Where one version is enough, that is a complete order. If the only reference left is a worn patch or an old photograph, we redraw it by hand and you approve the redraw first. Name Patches for Duty Strips
Tapes carry one name each and have to stay readable at a fixed length. We set the letter height across the whole set first, so a long surname and a short one produce tapes that look like they belong together. A different name on every tape costs no more than the same name repeated, because the setup work is identical. Send the roster with the spellings confirmed.

Morale Patches for Units and Crews
Less formal pieces with more room to be interesting, usually removable and usually molded so they can be swapped between carriers and garments. These often carry more colors and more illustration than the formal insignia, which sometimes points at a different construction. Commemorative runs tied to an anniversary, a deployment or a reunion, often reproducing insignia from an era when the original artwork no longer exists. There is no minimum, so a run of twenty for an association is a real order. Bring whatever reference survives, including a photograph of a worn patch, and we redraw it by hand.

Where your organization has criteria governing colors, dimensions or arrangement, send them and we build to that document. We work to the specification you supply rather than to a standard we have interpreted, and we do not represent the result as approved, compliant or certified by anyone. Versions, where two are needed
The number that shapes most unit orders is not a dimension, it is how many versions of the design you need. Full-color and subdued are the common pair, and planning both at the start costs nothing while making the second one months later means matching from a finished patch rather than from the source file.
Actual dimensions come from the garment and from your criteria rather than from us. Measure the space the patch has to occupy on the uniform or carrier it is going on, send any specified dimensions you have been given, and we will work to those. Where a specified size and the smallest type in the design conflict, we will tell you at proof stage rather than shrinking the type to fit.
For unit insignia with bold artwork and thread texture, choose custom embroidered patches. For morale and gear pieces that shed water and wipe clean, choose molded PVC patches. For anything that has to come off and go back on, choose hook-and-loop backing.

Unit orders go wrong in a small number of predictable ways, and every one of them is avoidable at proof stage rather than after it. These are the three we settle before anything at all is made.
Your document governs
Where you supply a drawing or a written criterion, we build to that rather than to a general rule of our own. Criteria vary between units, between uniforms and between roles, so we do not assume a standard applies to your requirement.
Versions from one file
Where a design needs both a full-color and a subdued version, both of them come from the same artwork. Subdued palettes lose contrast, so the adjustment is made deliberately and the two are proofed together rather than months apart.
Authorization is yours
You confirm the design is one your unit is entitled to have made. We do not obtain approval, verify eligibility or claim compliance or certification, and we will decline artwork that appears unlawful or misrepresented.

vs. Branch-specific pages

vs. Sewn or hook-and-loop
Sewing is permanent and needs nothing added to the garment. Hook-and-loop lets insignia be swapped as assignments change, which is why so much of this work ends up on it, but it needs a compatible loop field and that field sets the finished size. Many requirements use both: sewn where the piece never changes, removable where it does.
Sew what stays. Use hook-and-loop for what changes with assignment.
vs. Molded instead of stitched
A molded patch sheds water, wipes clean and takes a die-cut outline, which suits carriers, packs and outer gear. It cannot hold the fine type that formal insignia usually carries, so a molded version of a detailed emblem means a simplified design rather than the same one. That is a deliberate second patch, not a substitute.
