This page sells made-to-order patches with a heat-activated backing on them, not a way of applying a patch you already own. You choose the construction and the artwork, we make the patch, and the backing is a film on the reverse that melts into the fabric under heat and pressure. There is no minimum, so a single piece is a real order.
Whether it holds depends on the garment more than on the patch. Heat adhesive needs a fabric that can take the temperature and a surface the film can actually bond into. Cotton and cotton blends are the reliable case. Waterproof coatings, technical shells, leather, heavily textured knits and anything heat sensitive are not, and pressing them will damage the garment before it fixes the patch. Tell us the garment when you order and we will review it rather than guessing.
Application settings come with the patch, because the right time, temperature and pressure follow the construction we actually made and the fabric it is going onto. There is no single recipe that covers every combination, so we will not print one. After application, wait 48 hours before the first wash, then wash cold and gentle, inside out where the garment allows, and air dry or tumble low. Plenty of buyers press first and stitch the edge afterward on anything that will be worn hard.

How It Compares
vs. Sew-on patches
Sewing works on fabrics heat cannot touch, survives more washing and does not care about coatings or texture. Iron-on is faster, needs no skill and holds the patch flat while you work. The honest answer for anything worn hard is both: press it into place and then stitch the edge. Where the garment is leather, coated or heat sensitive, sewing is the only one of the two that is available.

vs. A commercial heat press
A press applies even heat and pressure across the whole patch, which a household iron does unevenly by nature. For one or two garments an iron is fine if you work carefully and press rather than slide. For a run of fifty, a press is the difference between consistent bonds and a handful of lifting edges. Neither changes the fabric rules, and neither makes a coated shell suitable.
