Custom flag patches look like the simplest thing we make and they are the easiest to get wrong. A flag is pure proportion: stripes of a set width, a field of a set size, stars or a device in a set place. Get any of those slightly off and everyone who knows that flag sees it immediately, even when they cannot say what changed.
So this order is specified rather than designed. You tell us the flag, the version, the orientation and the finished size, and we build to that. Units and teams often need the same flag in two or three versions at once: full color for one context, subdued for another, and sometimes reversed, so the field leads when it is worn on a sleeve.
Which flag is worn, where, and facing which way is set by services and organizations rather than by us. We publish no wear rule and no standard dimensions. Send the criteria you work to, or a sample of the patch you already use, and we will match the version you specify and show it on the proof before anything is made.
Most flags are ordered alongside other pieces, which is the practical reason to plan them together: the same colors, the same edge finish and the same backing across an entire sleeve or loadout. Ordering them as an afterthought is how a set arrives with one patch that does not match the rest.

Versions most orders need
Most flag orders are for two versions of one flag: full color and subdued, or standard and reversed. Planning them together means both come from the same artwork, at the same proportion and with the same edge finish, so the only difference between them is the palette or the direction the field faces.
Size comes from where the patch is worn. Measure the loop field or the space on the sleeve, and send that with the version you need. Where a flag carries a detailed central device, the finished size decides whether that device survives, so we check it at your size and say plainly whether it holds.
For bold stripes and simple fields, choose embroidered flags. Where the flag carries a detailed central device, choose woven construction for a detailed device. For packs and outer gear that get wet, choose molded flags for gear.
How a flag order is checked
Three checks before flag patches are made
A flag is judged by people who already know exactly what it looks like, which leaves no room for approximation. These are the three checks we make before any flag patch is produced.
Proportion held, not adjusted
Stripe widths, field size and device placement are kept in proportion at your finished size rather than nudged to fit a patch shape. Where a requested size distorts the flag, we say so and propose a size that does not.
Versions from one drawing
Full color, subdued and reversed versions all come from one piece of artwork, so the pair or the trio match in proportion and edge finish and differ only in the way you intended them to differ.

We publish no wear rule, orientation rule or standard dimension. You specify the version, the direction and the size, or send a sample, and we build to that and show it on the proof. Where you have no specification at all, we hold the proportions of the flag as drawn and say so on the proof.
